of General Soedirman in the Struggle to Maintain Indonesia's
Independence
The role of
General Soedirman in the struggle to maintain the independence of Indonesia
among others as follows:
a.
December 12, 1945, led TKR at Ambarawa in pounding and
expelling England. At that time he still berpangakt colonel.

warfare against the Dutch in Dutch Military Aggression II.
A. Soedirman Leading the Battle of Ambarawa
When the Bethel Brigade landed in
Semarang on October 19, 1945, the next troops headed for Magelang to free the
Allied captives. In Magelang Allied soldiers act as rulers who try to disarm
TKR and create chaos. TKR, Magelang
regiment led by M. Sarbini replied to the action by surrounding the allied
forces from all directions. But they
survived the devastation thanks to the intervention of President Soekarno who
managed to calm the atmosphere. Then the
Allied troops secretly left the city of Magelang
to Ambarawa. However, Battalions A. Yani, Suryosumpeno and Kusen pursued
the Allied forces. One battalion from the Purwokerto Division, under Faith
Adrongi, confronted the Allied movement in Pingit. Since then the battle has widened. Reinforcements came from Banyumas, Salatiga, Surakarta and
Yogyakarta. In one of the battles,
Lieutenant Colonel Isdiman Suryokusumo, Commander of the Banyumas TKR Regiment
who was the right hand of the Great Commander was killed. Since the death of Lieutenant Colonel Isdiman, the Commander
of the V Division, Colonel Sudirman felt he lost the best officer and he went
straight to the field to lead the battle. On
December 11, 1945, Colonel Soedirman held a meeting with the Sector Commanders
of TKR and Laskar. At the meeting Colonel
Soedirman explained that the position of the lowland is getting squeezed so it
is the right opportunity to destroy the opponent as soon as possible from
Ambarawa.
Exactly at 04.30 am on December 12,
1945 attacks began to be launched. The battle raged immediately around Ambarawa. One and a half hours later, the road connecting Ambarawa with
Semarang was already occupied by TKR unions. Battle of Ambarawa was fierce, Colonel Soedirman directly led
his troops who use the tactic of "Supit Udang" or double siege so
that the enemy is really confined. Supply
and communication with the parent troops cut off completely. After fighting for 4 days 4 nights, finally the enemy retreated
to Semarang. A formidable fortress falls
into the hands of our troops. On 15
December 1945, the battle was over. The
glorious victory in Ambarawa field has proved Soedirman's
ability as a formidable warlord. This
glorious episode has been immortalized in the form of the Palagan Ambarawa
Monument and is commemorated annually by the Army as a
Infantry Day or Juana Kartika Day.
B. Soedirman Leads the Guerrilla War
Estimated TNI that the Dutch at any
time will attack the RI, was not missed. The Netherlands again
launched its second military aggression. Dutch
troops attacked the Indonesian capital and moved throughout the territory of
the Republic on 19 December 1948. In the
final hours before the fall of Yogyakarta, Soedirman's illness came to the
President and reported that TNI troops were ready to carry out his plans,
including evacuating national leaders. President's
answer surprised Soedirman. Soedirman was
advised to stay in town , to be treated for his illness. Panglima Besar Soedirman answered the President's offer with
his words, "The best place for soya is in the midst of the subordinates. I will continue the struggle. Met of zonder TNI government will continue to fight ". Facing the Second Military Aggression of the Netherlands,
General Soedirman immediately issued the No. Express Command. I / PB / D / 48. The
contents, on December 19, 1948, the Dutch Armed Forces had attacked
the city ofYogyakarta and Maguwo airfield, the Dutch Government had
canceled the ceasefire agreement, all the Armed Forces run a plan to face the
Dutch attack. On that day General Soedirman left Yogya and led the
Guerilla War which lasted less than seven months. Guided, he traveled guerrilla up and down the
mountain, into the forest out of the woods, moving places. Soedirman often experience food shortages for days. Not to mention his suffering because of the pursuit of the
Dutch soldiers who wanted to arrest him. When
the Dutch invaded Yogyakarta, Dutch military leaders mistakenly account for the
role of the Indonesian Emergency Government (PDRI) and Soedirman. The Dutch only took Soekarno-Hatta and the politicians into a
center of gravity in the war. The Dutch
thought that by occupying the capital and arresting Soekarno-Hatta, the
Republic would be able to be demolished. Apparently the Dutch estimates are mistaken. Soekarno has handed over the government mandate to Minister
of Welfare Sjafruddin Prawiranegara who was in Sumatra, while the TNI remains
intact. Finally the Dutch realized his
mistake and then pursued Soedirman.
